Back to the bad old diet loop

"THERE IS THE THEORY OF THE MOBIUS- A twist in the fabric of space, where time becomes a loop."

This is a quote from Mr Worf on Star trek.

A bit Geeky of me, you might think, and you might be correct, I probably am a geek, (I'm here to tell you that I've made peace with it).

The quote does describe the cycle that people get trapped in at this time of year, as we all try to keep a resolution that was made nearly two weeks ago, when the TV was flashing with the fireworks of excitement and our glasses sparkled with the bubbles of cheap and nasty prosecco.

It was at this very moment that we all promised that the hangover that we would be nursing on the 1st January would be the signal for us to improve our collective lifestyles. Most of us would do this by deciding to start a diet.

If you have done this, I congratulate you. But before you become too married to the idea of adding up points, counting calories and reading books and conversion charts, I urge you to consider the following.

COULD IT BE, THAT THROUGH NO FAULT OF YOUR OWN, YOU ARE BEING SET UP FOR FAILURE? Could it be that the diet companies WANT you to fail?

You think that I am being harsh. I'd respectfully disagree with you and I would like to have the opportunity to give you my reasons.

The big diet companies have spent millions developing their programmes, printing millions of recipe books and coming up with a way that you can get to your target weight, your dream waist measurement, and on the day that your goal has been reached, you can triumphantly shout from the rooftops that you have beaten your flabby demons.

Most of us would be happy with that, and quite rightly, but what happens next January, will you be content after you have gained weight again? Or will you go on another diet, paying your enrollment fee again, and then paying your meeting fees every week until you reach your target weight again?

This cycle seems wrong to me. It makes me think that is the diet companies that exacerbate this cycle and that is simply not advantageous to their business model to actually allow you to keep the weight off.

I am also dragged towards cynicism when I look at the nutritional information on their pre-prepared meals. They either tell us that food is fat free or sugar free. The only problem is that they are rarely both. If something is fat free, it's usually full of sugar (which will be converted to fat in your body.

I WILL SAY IT AGAIN.......... THESE DIETS DO NOT WORK IN THE LONG TERM.

There are no short cuts, my friends. The only way to get slim is to be strong......cut out the fats, cut out the sugar, don't eat bread, try to cut dairy.

In short, eat simple food, drink smoothies and do one thing everyday that gets you out of breath.......

HAPPY NEW YEAR, FELLOW SMOOTHIE MONSTERS and I'm sorry if this sounded a bit preachy but I just am not too keen on big business And as Worf would say "They are without Honour" ha ha
